India’s First Women Who Did Phd In Photography.

Hailing from the non- descript village of Tanda, Ambedkarnagar, UP and born into a photographer family,Dr. Tulika Sahu completed her basic education from JawaharNavodayaVidyalaya,Faizabad, UP with PCBM group. To fulfill her father’s dream of becoming a photographer in a man’s world, she enrolled herself in College of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow University from where she completed her BFA. In furtherance of her quest for creative excellence she also pursued MFA and has the distinction of being the First woman in India to be awarded a Ph.D. in Photography from none other than the prestigious Lucknow University under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Bhupesh C Little. In the process of her creative pursuit she also became the first woman in over 100 years of history of College of Arts and Craft, University of Lucknow to achieve the singular honour.  

As she broke yet another male bastion she soon found her name in the annals of the prestigious Limca Book of Records (2015)as well as India Book of Records (2016). Her imaginative works also earned her a coveted place in Top 100 Indian Record Holders and wasfelicitated by Chief Editors of Record Books of 8 different countries at New Delhi in Nov 2017

Her area of expertise includes Black and White analog photography and innovative darkroom processes not known to digital era photographers. She is one of the photographers to have worked in partial solarization, three filter photography, Reticulation and Toning processes etc.She excels in low-light photography where her innovative and imaginative images have earned accolades from across the world.

A prolific photographer Dr. Sahu travels far and wide in search of her subjects and to achieve creative excellence. Awarded Internationally as well as Nationally her photographs have been accepted for exhibitions in over40national /International photography salons organized by world renowned photo-clubs of India, Australia America, Singapore, Greece, Arizona, Romania, Macedonia, UAE, UK etc.Her portfolio of photographs has also been selected for exhibition by none other than the almamater of Arts in UP, the prestigious State Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow. 

Accepting it as her social responsibility to repay to the society what she has gained she conducts free classes on photography for girls of her locality besides conducting sessions for those desirous in pursuing the art of photography in various Navodaya Schools as well as NGOs—free of cost. In her own words “I teach photography to anyone who is willing as you never know who may pick up this art form to earn her livelihood in years ahead”. A firm believer of the fact that every person is creative she encourages and assists her students to participate in various photo salons and contests.

Presently employed as Assistant Professor in Amity School of Fine Arts she has conducted 02 national level photography workshopsbesides being nominated as a Resource Person by various organizations such as State Museum, UP Photo Expo, Photo Fairs and JawaharNavodayaVidyalayaetc, and has been invited as jury in various colleges and universities.
